Run in the Sun

On Monday I entered my last year of youth.  I turned 29.

I got the best birthday present ever.  Sunny, 70 degree weather.  I broke out the shorts (both running and regular) for the first time this year.  It was awesome.

The workout was:

1.88 mile warmup: 9:10/mi
1 mile repeat (goal pace 6:10): 6:00
2 mile repeat (goal pace 6:30): 6:22/mi
2 x 800 (goal pace 2:57, 5:56/mi): 5:33/mi, 5:47/mi

It was a super hard workout, but I felt really good!  I was really tired after the 2 mile repeat, I wasn't sure I was going to be able to bust out some 800's.  Luckily I had an entire 800m rest.  I pushed hard that first 800 thinking that I was going to be too slow, and was shocked to find it was too fast!  I totally ruined any chance of having negative splits, or even splits, by pushing so hard my first one.

It was fun to be at the track on such a beautiful day.  We saw more people there then we've ever seen before (and we've been going every Monday for almost a year) and it was fun to have such a happy fun energy around.

I wish I could have taken a picture, but I don't usually bring a cell phone or camera on my runs and my camera broke anyway.

Earlier in the day my girlfriend Bethany brought me some super yummy homemade carrot cake.  It was awesome.  Best friend for 24 hours!

Vaughn worked so hard to keep my present a secret.  He took the boys with him to the store to pick it up and the whole way home drilled them with responses to my questions.

When they got home I asked: "Henry, what store did you go to?"

Henry: "The one with the big TV's but I won't tell you that we got one."

So yeah, I got a TV.

This isn't my usual sort of gift, but I really did want it and was excited to get it.  We don't really spend a whole lot of time watching TV.  But our TV is in the playroom and since it was fatter than it was wide it was taking up a lot of valuable play space.  I wanted a flat one so we could hang it on the wall and have more room to play in there.

Vaughn was also kind enough to give "me" cables that plug it into the laptop and our iphones so we can also plug those into the TV.  Yeah, "I" was super excited about those!

(Vaughn has no idea why I said this was a "take one for the team" birthday gift!)

In hindsight if I had known our camera was going to break on Sunday I would have pushed to get the camera on my wish list.  Oh well, I usually forget to take pictures anyway!

  1. Or, if you are the old out of shape lady walking the 5K your picture will always be ruined by some cute young runner in fantastic shape making you look worse than you are

    1. I have to admit that I almost didn't post that picture because of that one.
